Getting Started with CartWatch

Set up bot detection and Klaviyo suppression in four steps.

  1. Install CartWatch from the Shopify App Store

    CartWatch is a Shopify app — installation starts in the Shopify App Store.

    1. Find CartWatch in the Shopify App Store and click Install.
    2. You will be redirected to your Shopify admin to review and approve the required permissions.
    3. After approving, you will land in the CartWatch dashboard inside your Shopify admin.

  2. Connect your Klaviyo account

    Connecting Klaviyo allows CartWatch to automatically suppress flagged bot email addresses from your abandonment flows.

    1. In CartWatch, navigate to Settings.
    2. Click Connect Klaviyo.
    3. You will be redirected to Klaviyo to authorize CartWatch. Review the requested permissions and click Allow Access.
    4. Once connected, Klaviyo suppression is enabled automatically. CartWatch will suppress any email address it flags as a bot.

  3. CartWatch monitors checkouts automatically

    No additional configuration is required. CartWatch listens to your Shopify checkout webhooks and scores each session in real time.

    When a checkout is flagged as a bot, CartWatch will:

    • Record the flagged checkout in your CartWatch dashboard with its risk level and the actions taken.
    • Apply the CARTWATCH_FLAGGED_BOT tag to the Shopify customer account (if auto-tagging is enabled).
    • Suppress the email address in your connected email platform — Klaviyo, Omnisend, Mailchimp, Drip, or Brevo — if suppression is enabled.

  4. Review flagged activity in your dashboard

    Visit the CartWatch dashboard at any time to review detected bots and track which actions CartWatch took across Shopify and your connected providers.

    Each flagged checkout shows the email address, the bot risk level, the checkout date, and which actions were taken — tagging in Shopify, provider suppression, and payment blocking.
