Keep bots out of Shopify Messaging

CartWatch does not integrate directly with Shopify Messaging. Instead, the tag CARTWATCH_FLAGGED_BOT that we apply to bot profiles can be used to keep flagged bots out of those automations.

The CartWatch tag

On the Starter plan and above, CartWatch applies the tag CARTWATCH_FLAGGED_BOT to the Shopify customer when it flags a checkout.

Exclude the tag from an automation

Do this for each automation that should skip bots, including Recover abandoned checkout, Recover abandoned cart, and Convert abandoned product browse.

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Apps > Messaging.
  2. Click Automations.
  3. Open the automation, then click Edit workflow.
  4. Add a condition after the wait and before the message is sent.
  5. Set the condition on the customer's tags. Choose Not any of and enter CARTWATCH_FLAGGED_BOT . A customer with that tag does not continue to the message.
  6. Click Apply changes.
